The shorelines of the Indian Ocean are a low-lying plain that mainly consists of sandy soil along with coastal dunes, river estuaries, and several wetlands kept back from the Ocean by the dunes. The Quindalup dune systems exist within the area of Scarborough. The forms that are created. Surfaces are sculpted by wind and water, as vegetation expresses a wind direction through clustering linear structures. These lines, surfaces, shapes, colours and textures inspire the artwork. Working from photo surveys of plants, dunes, and beachside culture including surfing are the references that inform the integrated and articulated work.
Integrated works include working closely with architect and builder to ensure a high-quality durable outcome. The screening systems offer a functional shading and may simultaneously become and identifiable characteristic to the built facades. The screens will be artistically informed elements using simple means of perforation, colour selection, and subtle folds and rolling of the surface. The thematic is the dune surface and vegetation shaped by wind and water. Layered into this is a dynamic linear gesture which connect the entire façade through a playful flow and rhythm with the freedom of children drawing in the sand.
Articulated work is an introduced element on the cantilevered section at lower ground. A linear flow pattern s on the underside and moves to the upper side. Weaving back and forth the linear flow is a combination of two-dimensional and three-dimensional structure and light components. Some will be modified proposed existing structure and introduced fabricated components. The linear art in this area is an artistic expression which adds a warmth and playfulness.
